World Book Day – enjoying stories through dance

This year, as part of our World book day celebrations, the West End in Schools company came into school to help us bring stories to life, through the medium of dance. The children loved retelling the story through the medium of dance, especially portraying the different emotions felt by the different characters; they used different facial expressions and body shapes to achieve this.

The story selected for Year 2 was “Dinosaurs and all that rubbish.” This linked well with the class book “The Lorax,” which is also based on the impact that humans can have on the animals and plants around us. These themes were also explored further in Religion and World Views, which includes a topic on our responsibility to look after the environment around us.

By presenting this significant issue and it in a number of ways, it helps the children think about it more deeply. At Talbot, we actively teach the children about the climate emergency, so that they can start to think about the choices they make in an informed manner and help protect the planet with their actions.
