International Day of languages – celebrating diversity and culture

On Friday 29th September, Talbot celebrated a day of languages to promote the linguistic and cultural diversity of our school community and explore the importance of language learning.

Year 4 thought it was fantastic to see everyone dressed in the bright colours of different international flags, or dressed in traditional clothes, representing the different cultures within our diverse school community.

Throughout the day, children had the opportunity to learn words, greetings and short phrases from different languages and to share their own experiences of speaking languages other than English. Many pupils were surprised to learn how many of their peers were bilingual, and it was interesting to hear them speak confidently in another language.

Lastly, everybody learnt some new and interesting facts about other countries around the world, which were chosen because members of the school community were born there. By the end of the day, everyone had a greater appreciation of some of the different experiences that each other have had, bringing us closer together.
