Learning new techniques in art - using colour to create mood
In Art, Year 4 have been looking at how different colours can show different moods.
For example, red can show warmth, but it can also represent anger. In contract, blue can show coldness, but it also reflects calmness or even sadness. The children used this knowledge, when mixing paints, to change the shade of colours and alter the mood it created. This was done by creating a base colour and then adding white or black to change the shade.
These are important techniques, which the children will use late on in the unit, when they create mixed media paintings of Iceland. The children will be taught to incorporate warm colours to show the fire and lava from the volcanos, and cool colours for the ice and northern lights. As well as creating an amazing contrast, the children will try to evoke different moods.
