Phonics and Reading

At Talbot Primary, we are passionate about reading and believe that every child is a reader. Through reading, children have an enhanced understanding of the world around them and are exposed to new ideas, cultures and times. Reading allows imaginations to flourish and horizons to broaden. As a school, we strive to ensure that children have access to the highest quality teaching, resources and enriching environments, building upon the skills that they need to read fluently and fostering a lifelong love of reading. We are enthusiastic role models and ambassadors for reading and actively strive to engage the whole school community in our passion for reading.

To be a successful reader, children need the knowledge and skills to read and decode words, the fluency and understanding to engage fully with what they have read and the confidence and enthusiasm to delve into the world of books.

At Talbot, we provide daily, dedicated phonics through the DfE accredited Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Programme.
