Growth Mindsets – Choosing new learning heroes

This year, the learning heroes, which are used to promote growth mindsets at Talbot, are getting a makeover. From Year 1 to Year 6, each year group has been given one of the traits of a growth mindset, and has been challenged to redesign a character which promotes that characteristic.

For the last two years, children have recognised key characters throughout school, such as; Independent Anchor, Focus Fox, Resilient Rubik’s Cube, Perseverance Pen, Hardworking Hedgehog and Courage Ambulance.

In year 5, the children focussed specifically on perseverance. They discussed what perseverance means, how it is shown, and why it is essential to their learning. After brainstorming a range of ideas which represented perseverance, they set to work drawing their idea. Standout ideas included pick-axes, penguins and hikers. The classes chose their favourite two to be submitted to school council who will be responsible for making the final decision in their first school council meeting.
