Herd Farm – Outdoor Adventurous Activity in PE
In October, Year 3 had a trip to Herd Farm Activity Centre. The children were extremely excited, when the day came, as they were so eager to try new Outdoors and Adventurous Activities, which is an important strand of the PE curriculum at Talbot.
Throughout the day, they completed five different challenges:
- In Archery, the children tested their hand-eye coordination and tried to hit the bullseye (or even just the target in some cases).
- In Nightline, they had to work as a team to complete a blindfolded course through the woods.
- Bushcraft involved developing their survival skills; learning two different ways to make fire, first by creating sparks using flint and steel, then using a battery with some wire wool.
- In Orienteering, Mr Hewitt helped the children develop their map-reading skills as they searched for hidden clues around the centre.
- On the Zipwire, the children really pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and showed their bravery, as they went soaring down the hill at great speed.
As Year 3 returned to the coach, there were lots of happy faces and declarations of it being “the best trip ever!” They also showed incredible resilience to complete the challenges so well, despite the pouring rain.
