Growth Mindsets – re-designing new Learning Heroes

In Year 2, the children have thoroughly enjoyed re-designing the Learning Heroes as part of the Growth Mindset initiative in school. The children listened to an assembly led by Mr Rivers who described each learning hero assigned to the KS1 classes.

Year 2 are redesigning the learning hero – courage.

In class, the children discussed what courage means and how it could be represented. The children came up with different animals that they associated with courage. Leo said “I think a lion has a lot of courage”. Freya said “I would like to have a courage cat. They have to be really brave”.

The children explored the meaning of courage and created a mind-map of vocabulary. Lucas said “I think having courage means you have to persevere and be brave when facing a challenge”. Khali said “I think courage means that you never give up the first time you try something new”.

The children also talked about activities or topics that they associate with the word courage. Ada said “I think you have to be courageous to climb especially when the climb is really high!”.

Each child designed a new learning hero with something that they associated with courage. The entries were all fantastic! The newly elected school council will be choosing the winning entries during their first meeting.
