Problem solving - the importance of working as a team

During their first week, Year Two were tasked with completing a number of problem solving-based activities. This exciting opportunity provided the children with a chance to learn how to work together as a team. Important attributes like cooperation, communication and perseverance were put to the test through a series of interesting challenges.

First, the children were asked to work in small groups, whilst holding a piece of rope in their hands. The rope was attached to a hook and through working as a team, the children had to grab blocks with the hook and fit them into the correct place. This meant the children had to communicate clearly and carefully, and think about how they were going to achieve this tricky task as a team.

Afterwards, the children were tasked with matching smaller images together to create a larger picture. It was wonderful to see the children using their oracy skills to decide where each image belonged.

Finally, teams were pitted against each other to race across the field. However, teamwork was vital as pupils could only move past the start line through placing down stepping stones. Through excellent displays of teamwork and cooperation, every child managed to manoeuvre their way across the field and reach their target.
