Using the outdoor classroom – exploring and being active

Outside play is vitally important for children’s development. It supports physical development, oracy, imagination, collaboration and social skills, as well as supporting good for well-being.

The children go outside as often as possible, in all weathers, as long as it’s safe; therefore, it is important that the children wear appropriate clothing. This means that bad weather won’t hinder exploring outside.

Reception children love the vehicles and take turns to drive and pull their friends, and they make bus stops to wait for a turn. They also love creating messy soups and meals in the mud kitchen, setting up homes for the dolls and being highly physical - running, jumping, climbing and digging.

The teachers are looking forward to learning what interests the children have and what projects they will end up exploring next.
