Talbot Writing Process
Topics are aligned to the National Curriculum, providing a broad and balanced range of writing opportunities each year. Each unit of work is taught over two to three weeks and is aligned to guided reading, The teaching sequence:
- elements of punctuation and grammar are taught, particularly those that will be needed to support the writing later on
- sometimes there is a cold write opportunity to evaluate the pupils' various starting points
- there is a stimulus to engage the children in the new topic, e.g., text,video clip, drama activity, etc.
- a planning phase, with a significant focus on structure and vocabulary
- a writing phase, typically done over 2 or 3 days, with opportunities to edit and up-level work
- pupils redraft their work, continuing to improve accuracy and content
- there is an opportunity to share and celebrate the final outcomes
