Energy Efficiency

In early 2022, our school, supported by the Governing Board, signed up to the Let's Go Zero campaign for schools.  Let’s Go Zero is a national campaign uniting teachers, children, parents and their schools as they all work together to be zero carbon by 2030. The school was successful in gaining a Public Sector Low Carbon Skills grant in June 2022, which allowed us to commission an independent review of our school's heating and insulation infrastructure. This review was led by Retrofit Action For Tomorrow (RAFT).  RAFT  is a not-for-profit, community interest company which specialise in a multi-disciplinary approach in deep retrofit of buildings and schools. By working with RAFT the school was able to acknowledge the following:

  • Our school's energy usage was 3.5 times higher than the expected to reach Net Carbon Zero
  • Poor heating and hot water efficiency was consistent throughout the school

As a result we not only began implementing changes in our curriculum to support children to understand more about the Climate Emergency and how we can bring about change, but also consulted with Leeds City Council to invest in a significant sustainable energy project which drastically improved how we generate electricity and reduced the costs for our overall consumption.

We now source our energy from solar panels, using Air Source Heat Pumps to support more efficient energy generation.

We have just begun on our journey, however click here for the latest update on our energy efficient measures.
